Some of the best food experiences were definitely with Dana’s Aussie relatives. It was the first time I’d ever made Gnocchi & something I’ll always remember. Besides having some drama with a light bulb breaking while making the dough, the pasta turned out amazing! It took the entire group of us to roll, cut & mark the pasta, & by the end we were all just hungry & craving it. Delicious!

I spoke to Dana very recently & it felt like just yesterday that we were exploring Melbourne together. Since I’ve been telling stories of outings & great food lately, I can’t help but rehash the time we went out for Chinese together…

Being a little less food adventurous than me, it took some tugging to get Dana to agree to try a night of Asian food before leaving. Little did I know (& to her surprise as well), she’d be even more adventurous than expected. Not only did she order a crocodile dish, but it was also completely full of fresh chili peppers & spices throughout. I enjoyed it all, but I think Dana enjoyed learning how to use chopsticks more than anything else.

The photo of her chugging water to wash away the pain explains everything perfectly. I do have to give props her for trying…. & also leaving me with lots of leftovers to eat over the next 2 days.

I couldn’t talk about food without talking about coffee! I’ve definitely had multiple posts & photos over this year of me drinking nothing but espressos & lattes. Yum yum!

Before leaving Melbourne, I needed one last fix from the cafe that by far has made the best lattes I’ve ever tasted; 95 Espresso. Talking Dana into coming with me (& a 40 minute tram ride later), we were treating ourselves to delicious desserts & for me, a very very tasty latte.

Back to more stories from Melbourne…

One of the best parts about this city is it’s foods. Arguably, Australia’s food capital, you could find meals from around the world so easily & no matter what the price range, I never had a horrible dish. If I had the funds I’d eat out every night, but being on a working holiday I really had to choose my nights out carefully. One of our best finds were $5 dollar pizza nights which for traveling friends was a score for dinner time.

Before leaving, one of the places on the list to dine in was the Hopetoun Tea Rooms in The Block Arcade. Cute little shop with delicious desserts & top prices to match. Totally worth it though.

Making dinner with a fellow canadian!! Woohoo! (Taken with Instagram)

Time has been flying by & poor March has been wildly neglected; It’s time to play some catch-up!

From Sprinkles in LA to The Cupcake Bakery in Melbourne; Yum yum yummmm! Don’t tell our families but we had cupcakes before dinner this month. There were so many different flavours it took us a good 10 minutes to decide!

Even though I don’t like pineapples or bananas, there was something that attracted me to the Hummingbird Cupcake. Dana went for a rich & tasty Peanut Butter treat. I have a feeling we’ll be going back & trying a few more.

PS The main attraction to this place were then GIANT cupcakes on display. They cost up to $70 & are definitely intended for more than one person. I’m just wondering; if a cupcake is that big, isn’t it just a cake?

CUE coffee cozies are available once again! Found on Etsy

After a few days settling in & adjusting to the time difference we were ready to see some sites. We had already had a taste of authentic Aussie Barbie accommodation a couple nights before but hadn’t seen much outside the neighborhood. In comes Dana’s extended relatives with an invite to a horse & wine tour!

A rather strange combination; “Let’s ride down country roads to wineries, guzzle back a few tastings, & hop back on a horse!” Guess there’s no drink & ride rule here…

Joking aside, it was a great way to see some of the peninsula’s surroundings & experience a bit of Aussie flavour.

This is a good imagery of all the desserts I’ve even this holiday… Yummy.

NOM! :)

Tasty new treats. Mmhmm.

Unfortunately I’ll be a week too far off from seeing The Festival of Masters in person. Guess cool videos like this one will have to do. I LOVE Disney Vinylmation!

It’s my birthday today & this was make cake last night. Barbie birthday cakes were what I grew up with & was craving the design & nostalgia this year. Making a bundt cake the barbie goes in the middle & the cake becomes the dress. Pretty simple & very fun.

I’m not sure how she ended up at Wonder Women (with a Green Lantern marking) but I guess she’s just dressed up for Halloween too. Unfortunately the “W” melted very badly.
